Hyraxes are really interesting animals that were relatively unknown in the west for entire centuries. Once written into the Bible and once inspiring the names entire countries, these animals were once culturally intertwined with your ancestors. But they are also small creatures who rely upon the constant warmth of the desert sun. So, when we donned our coats and spread beyond the warmth of Africa, we left hyraxes behind.

Today you’re rediscovering an animal that once accompanied us in our early heritage. With your support, we’re able to learn more about these unique creatures and spread awareness of an animal once abandoned to time.

Remember that, while you love hyraxes, they don’t live very well beyond their habitat. They are social animals and thrive in warm environments where they can roam around and exist as a part of a larger group. You are spreading awareness of the animals and helping them rejoin our culture without enabling animal trafficking or forcing the animals into miserable lives.

As of the writing of this page, all of the proceeds from your hyrax plush adoptions are going into spreading awareness of these animals and supporting groups such as DAKTARI Bush School in their anti-poaching efforts. Furthermore, by spreading awareness and love of the animals, we’re also helping countries such as Kenya share their unique wildlife on a global scale and helping lawmakers consider the animals as more important to protect and share.

Your hyrax plush is the child of many years of work. I love stuffed animals and plushies and strive to constantly improve your experience as an owner of a Borbs™ plush toy. However, there was a point where I nearly couldn’t provide you with plushies like this. My stuffed animal brand, Friends Collection, was struggling in 2024. We didn’t have the income to pay for advertisements let alone for making many stuffed animal designs. We only had our namesake birds, a few designs in progress, and my personal hyrax account.

One night my manufacturing contact Fiona messaged me that she was starting her very own manufacturing business and she desperately needed a client. It made me consider my own Hail Mary. At the time the hyrax was completely unknown, but I had a hyrax account of around 10,000 followers. I figured that I could make a hyrax plush and sell a few hundred of them if anything. Unbeknownst to us, the stars were aligning for a miracle.

We started production on a hyrax plush and Fiona offered me some of the best customization options I’ve ever seen since she was just starting up. Meanwhile the animal was so unknown that she would call it the “brown pig” design. But during this time, one of my videos blew up across the internet. It was a screaming hyrax. Suddenly, everyone wanted a hyrax plush and the manufacturer was just finishing one of the greatest plush designs I’ve ever felt. It was a high quality animal with every one of my requests from premium stuffing to extra soft fur. And it arrived just in time for them to sell out with all the new hyrax fans around the world.

Since then, I attribute the survival of my wellbeing almost entirely to the humble rock hyrax. It may not be a Bible passage or a country, but these animals saved my business and I’m trying my best to make it up to them through spending all of its profits on spreading awareness of the creatures.
